Connecting the Dots

We humans have always turned our gaze skyward and collectively dreamed.  We look up at the night sky, connect the dotted stars, and conjure up shapes of our shared stories’ heroes and sheroes. We tend to our shared dreams and passions so they may not die out with our generation but be sustained into the next. We seek connections through stories and images that spark our imaginations. We soar in the company of each other. We endeavor to save what preciousness we have in this lifetime for future generations.

Food is also a mechanism for connecting. Hands sift through soil that nurtures farm bounty, toil to see produce delivered to markets,  carefully prepare a meal, or set a table. We final recipients warm with the community of sharing together that which journeyed to sustain us. In something as simple as a perfect tomato, we taste the sun and sky and our bellies warm.  We feel bound to the earth and to each other by a meal and conversation.

As we turn to 2018, like the human race seeking to connect the dotted night stars, we at Salt hope to connect the dots of the food’s journey to plate through our images. We will strive to awaken in the viewer’s  mind, the meaningful moments when they felt most connected to others. We are excited for what this year will bring for us all and are humbled by the support and love of those who take the journey with us.

Happy New Year friends, never stop connecting the dots!

More S’more

Smoregasbord

Even this modern rendition of the s’more evokes old memories. An outdoor campfire, on a beach, at the lake, out back in a yard, out anywhere when the sky subsides to deep blue and the talk is made comfortable. Shoulders hunch as hands carefully tend the char of a marshmallow on a stick. Eyes glow in communal anticipation, there is some real goodness about to happen. The gooey burned gob is passed to the right, to a receiving hand of graham cracker and chocolate. The first bite is the best and most perfect. Grubby, chocolate grins break out all around.

Eat up my fire loving chocolate grubbin’ friends!

S’more Better

S'mores Three Ways

We’re a bit smitten by s’mores here at Studio Salt Creative and have photographed them several ways. It may be we just like eating them after the shoot, or perhaps it’s the warm childhood memories of toasting mallows over a campfire that intrigue us.

We couldn’t decide which of these hand crafted beauties were better, and really do we even need to choose? Which is your favorite?

Drink Magic

I feel warmly welcomed when someone offers me a drink. A cool iced tea in the summer, a cup of cocoa in the winter, a mug of coffee in the morning, a cold beer at a barbecue. Nothing says “welcome friend” like someone handing you a drink.

Sidling up to a group exchanging jokes, a drink in my hand, bodies immediately part to fold me in and I’ll toast to that!  Raised glasses clink together, mysteriously transfer good times had by all.

To the magical transference of good will through  drink.  Cheers!
